Sun der Band was created by Sun Nanthachai, a talented musician from the northeastern region of Thailand, and his three younger members: Chet (a phin player), Bass (a guitarist), and Job (a Bass) and later added one more members, Win (a drummer), respectively.

A decade ago, they formed a band named “Mah Kao Hang: Nine-tailed Dog” and experimented with Isaan folk music in many ways. Until 2023, Sun Nanthachai crystallized his musical ideas from past experiences until he found his own creative style. Sun Nanthachai meant the band's name: "Sun Der is the light of the sound of Isan music. We are descendants of ethnic ancestors who have lived in the Mekong Basin for a long time. And we are the ones who carry on the voice of Southeast Asia from the past to the present, and we dream of the future."

If one were to use the music styles available in the current music industry as a criterion, the definition of Sunder's music style might not be very clear. But what Sunder is doing and creating right now is telling the story of life and the musical spirit of Southeast Asia through their unique songs. They use simple traditional Isaan instruments combined with Western electro-acoustics, conveying the rich sounds of Isaan culture through the band members' diverse skills.

Sunder is taking the sound of their roots and traveling to communicate the feelings of the Isaan people to audiences in every area where they have the opportunity to perform. They hope to be the authors of their own musical history and let people in the future have the experience of watching, listening, and criticizing over time.
