Open Ears, Open Doors

OVERVIEW

What happens when a conservatoire opens itself more fully to the musical world beyond its walls? This final PGVIS showcase begins with PGVIM’s intention to bring students and audiences into closer contact with the wider musical landscape—to encounter different genres, different ways of making and experiencing music, and artists whose practices extend far beyond the traditional conservatoire frame.

Presented by Music Industry Nexus, the programme brings together PELA Folk, R2ViolinCello, Supergoods, GYPSHA, B35, SUN DER, INSPIRATIVE, Montonn Jira, and The Superglasses Ska Ensemble. Across the afternoon and evening, the music moves from acoustic Thai folk and experimental classical performance through neo-funk, world music, contemporary jazz, and contemporary Isan music, before continuing into post-rock, ambient music, and ska. Regional musical identities sit alongside electronic experimentation, songwriting, groove, and cross-genre performance—offering not a single definition of contemporary music in Thailand, but a glimpse of its range and continuing evolution.

Opening the conservatoire also means looking beyond the performers onstage to the wider community that allows music to happen. Alongside the showcases, L.U.N. — Live Unit Network serves as a student training programme and a real working environment for emerging music-industry practitioners. Students gain hands-on experience in artist relations, production, stage management, sound, communications, content, audience experience, and concert operations while working alongside artists and industry professionals. Through L.U.N., PGVIM hopes to contribute to a broader music ecosystem in Thailand—one that creates space not only for the next generation of musicians, but also for the producers, organisers, technicians, communicators, and collaborators who help music reach its audience.
