The Artist as Global Citizen: Creative Practice for Humanity through Collaborative Processes

The forces of industrialization, capitalism, globalization, algorithms, and artificial intelligence drive human evolution while creating complex global challenges—environmental crises, social inequality, and technological disruption affecting ethics and human relationships. As the world accelerates, humans have diminishing time to reflect on the meaning of their humanity.

Artists must now ask: Should their role expand beyond individual expression to become "global citizen artists" with societal responsibility? Must art preserve, promote, and restore human dignity? In international exhibitions, many artists employ collaborative processes between creators and audiences, viewing art as both tool and process for shared experiences. Audiences are invited to learn, exchange, and build relationships, creating spaces for authentic human expression in a world where such opportunities are disappearing.

Art thus extends beyond finished works to encompass policies, products, services, and social processes contributing to societal development. This perspective led to Silpakorn University's Bachelor of Arts program in Art and Management for Society, preparing interdisciplinary creators who combine artistic passion with diverse professional capabilities and adaptability to global change. Expanding art's role does not abandon aesthetic values but returns artistic vision to society, enabling art to help create a future of meaningful, sustainable human coexistence through an ecosystem of mutual support, connection, healing, and hope for positive transformation.
