After completing her International Baccalaureate at The School of the Arts, Singapore in 2017, Leia was awarded the Loke Cheng-Kim scholarship to study Music (BA, Hons) at King’s College, Cambridge. Having just finished this course, she will be pursuing a Master of Studies in Musicology at St Catherine’s College, Oxford under the Ertegun Scholarship.

 

As an artist-researcher, Leia takes joy in drawing from different areas of knowledge, particularly musicology, critical theory (postcolonial and gender studies), language/literature and dance. Thus, she aspires to create work that addresses the arts’ social significance and appraises the aesthetics of everyday life.

 

To this end, Leia has researched and presented on the musicality of speech (Articulations, Kings College Music Society 2018 Concert), the ethical value(s) of musicking in the COVID-19 pandemic (Final Dissertation, Royal Musical Academy 2021 Conference), as well as the analysis of Indian Classical Dance (YSTCM Performer(‘)s Present: Telling Stories, 2019). In these and future explorations, she seeks to integrate various aspects of her postcolonial/human/modern life, including the artistic activities she enjoys – writing, creating musical multimedia pieces, playing the harpsichord, and dancing Odissi.
