Junghyun Kim

Junghyun Kim is a Geomungo (six-stringed Korean zither) player and researcher specializing
in the globalization of gugak (Korean traditional music). She holds dual master’s degrees in
Musicology from Seoul National University and in Cultural Heritage from University College
London.
She has worked as a project member of the Gyeonggi Sinawi Orchestra, received various
awards for both traditional and contemporary gugak performances, and broadened her musical
training beyond Korea by studying the Chinese traditional instrument erhu in Dalian, China.
Her interdisciplinary interests in music, history, and sustainability—shaped through academic
and artistic experiences in Korea, the UK, and China—inform her current research on how
traditional cultural elements can be creatively reimagined and shared on global stages.
