Dr. Helena Aung

Dr. Helena Aung is a pianist, pedagogue, and researcher based in Vancouver, Canada. She serves on the piano faculty at the University of British Columbia and is the founder of the Innovative Piano Program, an online academy dedicated to excellence in piano education. She earned her Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, where her dissertation focused on the piano works of Martin Bresnick. Helena’s scholarly interests include contemporary repertoire, performance practice, piano pedagogy, and the intersection of music, identity, and cultural values. Her work bridges analytical research with artistic interpretation, aiming to deepen understanding and engagement with modern piano literature. She has presented her research and performances internationally and is passionate about connecting historical context with contemporary expression in piano music.
