Tradition in Transitions
26 August 2023
20:00 - 21:00 hrs (GMT+7)
PGVIS Bigband
Directed by Dieter Mack
Special Guests:
Julian Cary (Vocal)
Azfansadra Karim (Keyboard)
Similar to the Bigband tradition since the 1920s, the bigband project at PGVIM during the annual Symposium has become a tradition on its own since some years with always a mixed program. It presents diverse styles that represent various traditions, but still remain strongly rooted in the genre. This year’s program includes 1930s Kansas style (“Count the Aces”) and even a jazzy adaption of a famous song by Kurt Weill (“Mack the Knife”) via the classic Blues tune “Stolen Moments” by Oliver Nelson until modern funky and complex harmonic arrangements and compositions of Gordon Goodwin (America) and Peter Herbolzheimer (Europe).
This year we are also proud to feature two guests, namely Azfansadra Karin from Jakarta on Hammond organ and Julian Cary on vocals.
