The Minnesota Project, initiated in 1954, was more than a mere collaboration between Seoul National University and the University of Minnesota—it became a powerful symbol of Korea's post-war recovery and national development. Launched amidst the devastation following the Korean War, when national infrastructure was virtually nonexistent, the partnership in agriculture, medicine, and engineering significantly propelled growth at Seoul National University and throughout Korean society. It remains an exemplary success in the history of international aid.

Seventy years later, the New-Minnesota Project builds on this legacy, reflecting on past support while addressing contemporary global issues through cultural "cultivation." In 2024, it began by providing music for the Minnesota Korean Language Village, and in 2025, it expanded to include the 70th anniversary, performances at Seoul National University's Humanities Theater, and the US Alumni Association's pre-concert. The project was also presented at the 69th World Federation of International Music Competitions General Assembly. Through this initiative, the project cultivates intercultural dialogue, artistic collaboration, and mutual understanding, establishing a 21st-century cultural exchange platform that resonates with the spirit of unity in diversity.
