The idea started during the lockdown situation, as we could only let two musicians play together in a room. The whole event was for our “Sommerpause” (summer break) online performance as the final event of the semester in Musikhochschule Lübeck.

The event was hosted two concert halls. The instrumentation was based on the six composition students that were studying in the new music profile.

The next rule was that each duo has to end on a certain note which should be held long and becoming the starting note of the next duo. So all duos were interconnected, and the very last note was the same as the first note of the first duo. The circle was closing in and theoretically, we could have repeated the whole thing endlessly.

The last rule was the rhythmical motive from Frank Zappa’s “Black Page No.1” which every composer had to use in a certain way in order to have some coherence here with other pieces.
