This creative research aims to 1) present the conceptual framework and compositional process of the musical work entitled “252 Kilometers through Eastern Thailand: A Suite for Acoustic Guitar Quartet”, 2) generate new knowledge in the field of contemporary music, and 3) disseminate the creative work to the public through live performance.

The inspiration for this composition stems from the main highway route connecting five provinces in Eastern Thailand—Trat, Chanthaburi, Rayong, Chonburi, and Chachoengsao—spanning approximately 252 kilometers. This route serves as the structural framework for developing melodic material and musical content, divided into five movements (A–E), each reflecting the motion and atmosphere of the respective region.

Each movement embodies the cultural identity and landscape of its province through the use of contemporary compositional techniques; Movement A (Trat) adapts coastal folk melodies with wave-like arpeggios to evoke sea breeze and tides. Movement B (Chanthaburi) reflects the gemstone trade and orchard culture through bright pentatonic motifs and market-like rhythmic interplay. Movement C (Rayong) blends industrial rhythms with folk dance elements, using syncopated tapping to express the coexistence of tradition and modernization. Movement D (Chonburi) captures vibrant beach life and festivals through lively tempos, layered textures, and ornamented folk themes. Movement E (Chachoengsao) draws from the serene Bang Pakong River and temple heritage, employing sustained harmonics and gentle pentatonic lines.

The work is performed by an acoustic guitar quartet, employing a variety of playing techniques—such as fingerstyle, percussive tapping, and layered textures—to convey emotional depth and the evolving scenery throughout the journey. Ultimately, the composition seeks to offer an artistic experience that meaningfully connects musical expression with geography, culture, and the spirit of travel in a contemporary context.
