Value-based Education: Artistic Citizenship and the GLOMUS Network What does it mean to educate musicians for a world marked by uncertainty, complexity, and global interdependence? This presentation explores how value-based education can strengthen higher music education by placing artistic citizenship at its core. Drawing on experiences from the Royal Academy of Music in Denmark and the international GLOMUS network, the presentation argues that curiosity and courage are essential educational values. Curiosity invites students to engage with unfamiliar musical traditions, diverse communities, and new ways of creating knowledge. Courage enables them to act artistically and ethically, embracing responsibility beyond the concert hall and contributing to society through their artistic practice. The presentation introduces practical examples of educational initiatives that connect artistic excellence with collaboration, intercultural dialogue, sustainability, and community engagement. It also reflects on how international partnerships within the GLOMUS network foster reciprocal learning and challenge traditional assumptions about knowledge production in music education. Rather than viewing artistic quality and social engagement as competing agendas, the presentation proposes that they reinforce one another. Value-based education prepares musicians not only to excel as performers and creators but also to become reflective, responsible, and globally connected artistic citizens capable of shaping the future of music and society.
