The Kodály Concept, one of the most well-known philosophies in music education, is characterized by its belief in experiencing music through singing, its strategic and sequential lesson planning, and its use of folk songs as a musical "mother-tongue." This pedagogical approach, which views musical literacy as a universal right, was first introduced in Thailand in 1977 and has since grown in both academic research and practical application.

For a choral ensemble, the Kodály method is an invaluable tool for building musicality and cohesion. As an amateur community choir dedicated to both early and contemporary music, Bangkok Consort Singers has been using the method in its rehearsals since 2022. This approach was central to the choir's preparation for their recent performance, "ZENESIAM: Choral Music of Hungary & Thailand," where the systematic use of the method allowed the ensemble to fully engage with the unique melodic and rhythmic traditions of both cultures.

This presentation aims to highlight the pedagogical applications of the Kodály method in choral rehearsal and performance. It will do so by analyzing how the ensemble utilized the method to prepare and perform classical choral repertoire and folk song arrangements from both Thailand and Hungary. Ultimately, this paper will demonstrate that through the careful study and performance of diverse folk traditions, the Kodály method serves as a powerful framework for fostering not only musical excellence but also a deeper sense of cross-cultural dialogue and understanding.
