As 2024 unfolds, the Musique de la Terre (Music of Land) project celebrates a decade of cultural exploration, hosted alongside the Princess Galyani Vadhana International Symposium (PGVIS). This annual gathering brings together young musicians from ASEAN countries and beyond, fostering a rich tapestry of cultural exchange. The project's latest innovation, the 'Musical Odyssey: Exploring E-sarn' project, marks an exciting new chapter in its evolving story.

Under the artistic direction of Anant Narkkong, an ethnomusicologist and a renowned Silpathorn Artist, together with the composer Yii Kah Hoe, the project embarks on a journey of discovery. Student delegates from various nations will visit Mahasarakham province in the Northeastern region of Thailand, immersing themselves in the vibrant world of E-sarn music.

This initiative goes beyond mere observation, aiming to transform the learning experience. By working collaboratively, students engage in a dynamic, hands-on approach to cultural understanding. The project creates a unique space where diverse perspectives converge, encouraging participants to learn not just from their surroundings, but from each other.

At its heart, the project seeks to ignite new musical experiences. As students explore the rich traditions of E-sarn music, they're challenged to interpret and create in novel ways. This blend of traditional and innovative approaches opens up fresh avenues for musical expression and cross-cultural appreciation.

Through this immersive journey, Musique de la Terre continues to bridge cultures, foster creativity, and nurture a deep appreciation for the world's musical heritage. The 'Musical Odyssey' project stands as a testament to the power of music in bringing people together, transcending boundaries, and inspiring a new generation of musicians as global citizens.
